Our vision
We envision a world where wellness is a public good, not a privilege. We support our whole community with the support to heal from trauma, build resiliency, and create networks of community care.
the mission
Our mission is to bring people together across lines of difference, diversify our practice community, and strengthen the social fabric on Charleston’s East Side (and beyond). Our flagship program is a donation-based yoga studio from The Shaw Community Center.
the location
The Shaw Community Center is in the heart of Charleston’s East Side community. We are working in partnership with the City of Charleston and existing community center leadership.

Open our first physical space at Shaw, with free and sliding-scale classes – childcare provided
Provide BIPOC Scholarships to train the next generation of trauma-informed yoga teachers, ensuring programs are sustainable and peer-led
Expand Community Outreach & Education – bringing yoga and mindfulness into schools, parks, churches, hospitals, detention centers, and recovery facilities.
Support Staff & Operations so that our dedicated teachers and facilitators can continue to serve with stability and dignity.
All donations are tax-deductible.
What is the Shaw Center and why does it matter?
The Shaw Center is a city-owned community center located at 20 Mary Street downtown Charleston in the historic East Side neighborhood. For years, the Boys & Girls Club operated from the center with programs that nurtured an entire generation.
Yoga is Us helps strengthen Charleston’s social fabric and tend to the deep-rooted historical trauma shaping our community. Our mission is to make wellness a public good, and to create the conditions for mutual aid, healing and community care.
We believe deeply in the power of trauma-informed practice to transform communities hit hardest by inequity and isolation. We also believe that the symptoms we’re seeing – racial tension, violence, apathy – can be healed by deepening our sense of connection and belonging.
